The Cornish Pump was used to dewater the Chapin Iron Mine, considered one of the greatest iron mines in the world. The Cornish Pump was featured in the History Channel's Modern Marvels Series on the World's Biggest Machines. This is the largest steam-driven pumping engine in the United States. The huge Cornish Pump is a National Historic Site, National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark, and a Michigan Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
