Year Round Vacation Cottages on the AuTrain River

Enjoy your vacation in our comfortable vacation cottages located by the AuTrain River. The AuTrain River cottages are within 1 mile of Lake Superior and conveniently located near the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Grand Island Recreation Area, the Hiawatha National Forest, and several waterfalls in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We offer a cozy one-bedroom cottage and a two bedroom cottage overlooking the AuTrain River.

The Au Train River Cottages are located in a wooded area in a private condo association on the shores of the AuTrain River. Each cottages has one bathroom with a shower, a wood interior, natural slate flooring, and tile countertops in the kitchen. The living area has a Cable 32” LCD HDTV with a 5.1 digital surround sound and a DVD player. There is a gas stove for a little additional heat when needed. We have games and cards for guests to use.

The complete kitchen has a stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, a coffee maker with coffee, and a slow cooker along with dishes and cooking utensils. There is a gas grill complete with tools for your outdoor cooking and a fire pit by the river for evening campfires.

ONE-BEDROOM COTTAGE

The bedroom is furnished with a double bed with a 3” memory foam mattress topper that provides extra comfort. There is a bathroom with a shower. Linens, towels, and paper products are furnished for our guests.

TWO-BEDROOM COTTAGE

The Two Bedroom Cottage is currently under interior renovation. All updates will be done by May 20th, 2013 and pictures will be updated. The cottage is available for reservation now for Memorial Day forward. The two-bedroom cottage has a a queen bed and a double bed and will accommodate up to 5 guests. Please call or e-mail for additional information.

There is a nice area by the river for sitting and relaxing or swimming in the water. A 17’ canoe with life jackets and paddles is included in the rental so you can enjoy a leisurely paddle down the AuTrain River. Shuttle service is available so you can take your time paddling to the next bridge or all the way to Lake Superior. The AuTrain River meanders through the Hiawatha National Forest where you can enjoy watching the wildlife or having a picnic lunch. A delightful way to spend a day or an afternoon. There is also a fishing boat with a motor available for rent in case you would like to fish or go for a boat ride on AuTrain Lake.

Recreation abounds in Alger County and the area around AuTrain. Hike on the trails in the Pictured Rocks, on Grand Island, or the Songbird Trail at the boat landing on AuTrain Lake and learn the birds by their songs; explore a variety of waterfalls; or take a cruise on Lake Superior.  The beautiful Lake Superior Sand beach is only 1 mile from the cottage or there is a nice swimming beach at the campground on AuTrain Lake.  There is easy access to the ATV trails for some fun riding in the Hiawatha National Forest.

Munising is only a short distance from the cottage for shopping and dining and there is a casino in Christmas on Highway M-28.

Fall brings gorgeous color to the area and is a photographers delight; so don’t forget your camera. Hunters will find hundreds of public lands in the Hiawatha Forest for hunting large and small game.

Winter activities are sure to please outdoor lovers as Alger County gets major winter snow.  Snowmobile on the hundreds of miles of groomed trails or go cross country skiing at Valley Spur, the Christmas trails, or trails in the Pictured Rocks Lakeshore. The adventurous might try ice climbing designated cliffs in the Pictured Rocks Lakeshore.

Deposits are necessary to confirm reservation
Deposit must be cancelled 3 weeks in advance to obtain refund.
Deposit is non-refundable within 3 weeks, unless week is re-rented or deposit used for another week
