Welcome to Kemps Portage Lake Log Homes and Vacation Rentals. The Lake House is the newest addition to our Vacation home rentals located on Portage Lake in Dollar Bay, MI, 5 miles east of Hancock in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This home is a vacation rental and also our Model home featuring Golden Eagle Log Home Material packages.
The Lake House is built into a hillside and with a main level and a lower walkout level on Portage Lake. The Vacation Home has 4-bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms, two complete kitchens with dishwashers, two laundry rooms, plus many amenities. Both kitchens have granite counter tops and the house is equipped with a central vaccuum system.
The Lake House has 3,600 square feet of living area and 2,200 square feet of deck area. The Lake House offers four lodging options. The Lake House can be rented as a 1, 2, 3, or 4 bedroom home for your vacation in the Houghton and Hancock area of the Keweenaw Peninsula.
THE MAIN FLOOR
The large living room has a vaulted ceiling, flat screen satellite HD TV with a Blue Ray DVD player, and two pullout queen size sofas for extra guests. There is surround sound stereo for your enjoyment and a large walk-in closet for all your gear. Patio doors open onto the large wrap-around deck furnished with outdoor furniture for sitting and relaxing. There is a complete kitchen including a dishwasher and a laundry room with a washer and dryer.
There are two bedrooms on this level. The Master Bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed and the attached bathroom has a double sink, shower, and a whirlpool tub. The other bedroom has a queen-size bed and there is an additional bathroom with a tub/shower combination. The main level offers over 1800 square feet of living area and 1200 square feet of deck. The interior is finished timber frame style. The main floor will sleep 9 guests.
The Lower Level is a complete living area with 9' ceilings. The family room is furnished with a flat screen satellite HD TV, DVD player, and two pullout sofas: one queen-size and one full-size. There is a dining room and a complete kitchen with a dishwasher. The laundry room contains a washer and dryer. There are two bedrooms on the lower level with a king-size bed in one bedroom and two twin beds in the other bedroom. There is a full bathroom with a tile walk-in shower with multiple heads. The lower level offers 1800 square feet of living area with over 1000 square feet of covered porch overlooking Portage Lake. Radiant in-floor heating on the lower level will keep you cozy all year round. The lower level will sleep 8 guests.
We provide bedding and towels; all you have to do is bring your consumable goods. We also have a fire pit set up outside overlooking Portage Lake for your evening campfires and a charcoal grill for outdoor cooking.
The Lake House is located right next door to Sandy Bottom Beach where there is a sandy swimming beach and a boat ramp so bring your boat for cruising on Portage Lake, fishing, or water sports.
Wave Runners can be rented at Copper Country Rentals in Calumet and they will deliver to the Lake House or the area by the lift bridge.
The Lake House on Portage Lake is conveniently located to all the exciting special events, attractions, and recreational opportunities in the Keweenaw Peninsula. Michigan Tech University is only 6 miles from the Lake House and Finlandia University is 6 miles, an ideal location for those visiting the Universities. The well-designed kitchens and the charcoal grill make cooking easy for those who want to eat at home rather than going out to eat.
Enjoy exploring the Keweenaw Peninsula, a land filled with mining history. Visit the Quincy Mine, the Seaman Mineral Museum, or the library at Michigan Tech to browse the archives. There are lighthouses, museums, and the beauty of Lake Superior to explore. Don't forget your camera.
If you want to explore the outdoors there are numerous trails for hiking, birding, mountain biking, and ATVing.
This is an ideal location for your snowmobile or skiing vacation. Mount Ripley downhill ski area is just 4.6 miles from the Lake House and there are several wonderful groomed cross-country ski trails nearby.
Snowmobilers will find there is easy access to Trail #3 for wonderful riding all over the peninsula. Head up to Copper Harbor, cruise up Brockway Mountain, or just ride through the beautiful woods. Snowmobile Rentals nearby.

DIRECTIONS: Please follow these directions and do not use GPS once you are on Lower Point Mills Road.
Go 1/2 mile and take a left into the driveway. Then take a right and you will see the house. You will get to the driveway before you see the house. GPS will take you past the house. You will have to go a few miles before you will be able to turn around, so please use these directions. It is the first driveway on your left, past Sandy Bottom Beach.
