The community of Spread Eagle, WI is located on Highway US-2. 5 miles west of Iron Mountain and 6 miles east of Florence in northeastern Wisconsin. The beautiful lakes, rivers, and woodlands have attracted many people who have chosen to live here, vacation, or have summer homes and cottages.

BADWATER SKI-TERS Water Ski Show,Vagabond Park, Menominee River, Spread Eagle, Wisconsin, 5 miles from Iron Mountain, Michigan. Shows from mid-June through Labor Day weekend. Night Show. Watch awesome skiing and amazing jumping. The Badwater Ski-Ters are the 2015 State of Wisconsin Division 2 Show Ski Champions! The Badwater Ski-Ters Jump Team has been very successful in national competition and are the2003, 2009, and 2015, and 2016 National Show Jumping Champions. NICOLET NATIONAL FOREST in northeastern Wisconsin, just 10 miles west of Spread Eagle. Four seasons of recreation may be enjoyed in the Nicolet - hiking, camping, biking, fishing, swimming, canoeing, bird watching, berry picking, hunting, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. The Nicolet contains Whisker Lake Wilderness, over 7,500 acres of remote dedicated wilderness with walk in camping, fishing and canoeing. Recreational Opportunities

Florence County offers hundreds of acres of public land for hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, off-roading, snowmobiling, downhill and cross country skiing, An amazing area for outdoor enthusiasts. Whitewater rafting at Piers Gorge just east of Niagara, WI.

FISHING: The lakes and streams near Spread Eagle and Florence County are just waiting for you to drop in your line and enjoy some great fishing, The boat launch for Badwater Lake on the Menominee River is just off US-2 on the Twin Falls Road. You can fish Badwater, a backwater of the Twin Falls Power Dam on the Menominee River, or head upstream on the Menominee River. The Pine River flows into the Menominee downriver from the power dam . . . boat launch south of the Lake Elwood Road or there is a launch south of Florence on Highway N. The Brule River is north of the town of Florence and separates Wisconsin from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Great fishing, canoeing and kayaking.

GOLFING: There are several area courses open to the public that offer a challenge to those who enjoy playing golf.

SKIING: Keyes Peak Downhill Ski Area is located 4 miles south of Florence on Highway 101. Downhill skiing, snowboarding, and tubing with rental equipment available. Phone 715-528-3207. Pine Mountain Resort near Iron Mountain offers downhill skiing and snowbloarding with rentals available.

SNOWMOBILING: Trail runs along US-2 on the old Northwestern railroad tracks and connects to the Iron Mountain area via the railroad bridge over the Menominee River or west throughout Florence County and into the Upper Peninsula.

SPREAD EAGLE BARRENS NATURAL AREA. Just south of Lake Anna you will find one of the last areas in the state of Wisconsin that was never settled and remains undeveloped as it was many centuries ago. Rolling plains, grasslands, sweeping vistas, wild birds, butterflies, wildlife, and wildflowers dot the landscape and delicious blueberries are ready for picking during the summer.

WATERFALL TOUR: Florence County has several waterfalls located on state designated Wild Rivers, the Popple River and the Pine River. Both offer canoeing and kayaking with portage trails around the waterfalls. The Florence County Waterfalls are not easy to reach and are on backroads, sometimes impassible, so be cautious as you treck into the woods. All the waterfalls are accessible by land except Little Bull Falls that is located on private property and can only be viewed from a canoe or kayak.

  • LaSalle Falls, Meyers Falls, & Bull Falls are on the Pine River. LaSalle is the largest falls and it is about a hike of 1 mile over hills and hollows to find this exciting waterfall. Washburn Falls Jennings Falls, Little Bull Falls, and Big Bull Falls are on the Popple River

~ Yesterday ~

Many years ago when the Northwestern Railroad extended their tracks west to the iron mines in Florence and Commonwealth, the train brought people from Iron Mountain to enjoy the beautiful lakes in the Spread Eagle area.

Private cottages and camps sprang up around the Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes, Lake Elwood, Spring Lake, Lake Anna, and Cosgrove Lake as well as along the Menominee River that separates Wisconsin from the Upper Peninsula.

Menominee river Iron Bridge, Twin Falls

The old iron bridge crossing the Menominee River is located just east of US-2 on Twin Falls Road in Spread Eagle near the boat launch and the Badwater Ski-Ters Waterski Show site. This was the original bridge for Highway US-2 from Iron Mountain, Michigan to Florence, Wisconsin. Foot traffic only. The bridge was 100 years old in 2012.
