CABOOSE STYLE HOME ON LAKE SUPERIOR Lodging in the Caboose Style Vacation Home on the shores of Lake Superior, 30 miles north of Newberry, MI in the Lake Superior State Forest, Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Comfortable accommodations in this smoke free home built in the style of a classic train caboose complete with covered decks at each end of the cottage. This unique style home, built in 2000, is an original design home overlooking Lake Superior and offers 200 feet of Lake Superior shoreline for relaxing on the beach, agate hunting, or stargazing at the night sky. You might be treated to a display of the northern lights or see a passing freighter on the horizon. The Caboose Style Home has one bedroom on the main level with a queen sized bed, skylight, and a bay window overlooking the lake. Full bath with two person jacuzzi. Queen sized sleeper sofa and couch in the living room for extra guests. The upstairs "cupola" bedroom is available for an additional nightly fee. The "cupola" sleeps up to 4 additional guests.
The living room has a cathedral ceiling, skylight, bay window, and a cast iron wood stove for warming up on those cool evenings. There is carpeting throughout the living and bedroom areas with ceiling fans. Gas furnace keeps you comfortable on the coolest of Upper Peninsula nights. The fully equipped kitchen has hardwood floors, full sized appliances, built in microwave, coffee maker, toaster and a built in dinette area. BBQ grill by the cottage and a firepit for campfires. The Caboose Home is conveniently located to the many attractions and recreational opportunities the area has to offer. Just across the road is Muskallonge Lake where you will find good fishing and a swimming beach in the State Park. Hiking trails offer a nice walk through the woods on the North Country Trail System. Boats and bikes can be rented in Newberry. Excellent opportunities for photographers and birdwatchers. Deer Park, the site of an old Lifesaving Station, has two convenience stores and a restaurant/bar with gas pumps at Pine Stump Junction.
The Lake Superior State Forest offers hunting and fishing in the many lakes and streams or canoeing on the Two Hearted River.There is easy access to the ATV and snowmobile trail system and there are rentals nearby. Muskallonge Lake is across the road for swimming and fishing. The Caboose Home is only 1 hour from beautiful Tahquamenon Falls State Park. The Upper Falls is the second largest falls east of the Mississippi and there are five smaller falls at the Lower Falls Park. Day trips to other area attractions include Crisp Point Lighthouse, the Whitefish Point Lighthouse and Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, and the Whitefish Point Bird Observatory. The Eastern Entrance to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Grand Marais is 18 miles west of the Caboose Home on gravel road H-58. WINTER FUN
