Explore the scenic wilderness of the Upper Peninsula with Woods & Waters guided ectours, located in the Eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan about 30 miles northeast of the Mackinac Bridge along the shores of Northern Lake Huron within the Les Cheneaux Islands.

Woods & Waters Ecotours offer hiking outings throughout the backcountry or biking on woodland trails. Kayak among the Les Cheneaux Islands of Lake Huron, Drummond Island, St. Mary's River, Isle Royale, and other custom locations. Paddle under the full moon or try your hand at the Raku Pottery Workshop. We offer a variety of year-round outings for individuals, families, or groups who want to explore the woods and waters of the beautiful Upper Peninsula.

Tours range from 2 hours to one week.
Overnight camping or lodge based stays that includes meals, guides, interpretation, and gear.

Our tours include Beginner to Advanced Kayaking, Biking, Hiking, Birding, Cross-Country Skiing, Snowshoeing, Dogsledding, Wildflower Tours, Family Trips, Business Retreats & Teambuilding, School Groups, Women's Trips, Women's Wellness Weekend, All Women's Harvest Campout, Raku Pottery Workshop, B&B's, Historical Camps, and Custom Tours.

You can join one of our planned outings or we will be happy to customize a tour for you or your group conducted by our experienced guides. Most of our tours are in this scenic area of the Eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan where you can enjoy the natural beauty of the woods and waters. Tour Packages:
Spring tours include viewing migratory birds as they return to the northwoods and enjoying the beautiful wildflowers, such as the yellow Ladies Slipper and the Prairie Smoke, as they burst into bloom after a long winter. Try our Bird Conservation Tour- a Touch of the Tropics; Drummond Island Explorations Tour of the second largest freshwater island in the U.S.; or our Pots, Paddles, and Caves outing where you explore Raku pottery, glaze and fire you own pre-made pots, sea kayak the wilderness shores of Lake Huron and tour a natural cave

Summer offers wonderful paddling adventures, hiking, and a variety of mountain bike trips. Tours include Drummond Island Explorations; Great Lakes Island Life kayak trip to remote islands and overnight stay at a historic island lodge; The St. Mary's River Mariners Journey, visiting a different island on the St. Mary's River each day and relaxing in comfort at a beautiful B&B on Drummond Island at night; Great Lakes and Wild Lands Tour of the Les Cheneaux Islands, Drummond Island, and a trip to the Whitefish Point Bird Observatory and Tahquamenon Falls near Paradise.

We also offer overnight Island Campouts on one of the outer island with campfires, storytelling, and hikes. Great for the family.

Fall color is spectacular in northern Michigan. We offer our Drummond Island Explorations; Bird Conservation- A touch of the Tropics in the Northwoods; Pots Paddles, and Caves; The Women's Harvest Campout; The Women's Spa and Wellness Weekend; and Great Lakes Island Life Tours.

WINTER TOURS
Winter Tour Packages include a day of dog sledding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Equipment provided.

DAY TRIPS

Only have a few hours or a day to explore? We offer day trips from 2 hours to about 5 hours with guides and interpretation provided. Refreshments and lunch included on our longer trips. Bikes available.

Tours include Natural Pavement Pursuits Bike outing on Drummond Island's natural limestone pavement and ledges; Cliff Overlook Hike exploring the backcountry shoreline on Drummond Island where bears and wolves frequent; The Les Cheneaux Village Biking Tour to various points of interest; Migratory Birding Trips; Raku Pottery Workshop; and our Easy Going Family Kayak Jaunt (2 & 4 hours trips)

KAYKING TRIPS

We offer a wide variety of kayaking day trips including a 2-hour introductory trip that is great for families with younger children with easy paddling.

We also have a trip of 3-4 hours for beginners to advanced paddlers, with a guide and refreshments provided, or a full day trip of 6-7 hours for beginners to advanced paddlers.

Guide and lunch provided.

Full Moon Kayak Trip: Paddle in moonlit waters of Les Cheneaux while you watch a sunset and listen to the nightlife in a marsh. Kayak, gear, & instruction provided.

KAYAK INSTRUCTION

KAYAK INSTRUCTION
Just getting started in paddling or wanting to build kayaking skill? We offer individual or group classes taught by an American Canoeing Association Instructor. Classes range from introductory, safety skills, rolling, and trip planning. All gear included or bring your own!

EXTENDED KAYAK JOURNEYS
Wonderful outings for those who want to travel longer distances by kayak over several days. Food options, rustic camping, or comfortable lodging available.

OUTFITTER SHOP

Stop in Outfitter shop and find quality paddling, camping, and biking gear. We sell Valley, P & H, and Current Designs kayaks and Wenonah Canoes. Many choices are available for paddling accessories. Cannondale and KHS bikes are available.Discover local gifts for the nature lover. Open year round.

RENTALS

We also offer mountain bike, kayak, and canoe rentals and have new and used kayaks for sale. Kayak renters will need a kayak safety class, if they haven't taken a course before. Training available. Cross Country Skis and Snowshoes available.

RESERVATIONS

Reservations are recommended, but if you are in the area, call or stop by our Outfitters Shop at 20 Pickford Avenue, Hessel, MI and we will be glad to set up an outing for you while you are visiting the area. We appreciate advanced notice for large groups.

Directions: Take I-75 north of the Mackinac Bridge about 14 miles to Exit # 359. Turn right (east) on Highway M-134 and go 13 miles to Hessel. Turn south at the blinking light and the Outfitters Shop will be on the right side of the road.
