There are many wonderful places to paddle or bike. . . just ask us and we will recommend an exciting wilderness trip for you and your friends.

Kayaking, Canoeing, and Tubing

There are 4 great rivers in Florence County, the Brule, the Menominee, the Pine, and the Popple that wind through the wilderness and offer a scenic trip through the wilderness. Enjoy paddling down the Popple River or the Pine River, two of Wisconsin's three Wild Rivers. There are waterfalls on both the Popple and the Pine Rivers, watch for the portages.

For a short trip, take a fun jaunt on the "Pine River Oxbow" where the river winds around for 3.5 miles and you return to land less than 1/2 mile from where you launched your watercraft at the bridge on Highway N, just south of Florence.

Menominee River, Badwater Lake

The Menominee River also offers a nice paddle with a few rapids.

Put in where the Michigamme and the Brule Rivers meet, just east of Florence and paddle all the way to Badwater Lake, (the Twin Falls Reservoir), or take a peaceful paddle on Badwater Lake winding around the many islands. Put your tube or kayak in below the Twin Falls Dam (at the US-2 Bridge) and paddle or float to Cowboy Lake, a fun afternoon on the river.

Florence County has many inland lakes that are great for fishing or a peaceful paddle.

Mountain Biking

Florence County offers 7 mountain biking trails as well as many back roads throughout the county. Visit some of the waterfalls or just ride through the woods enjoying the scenic beauty and solitude of the Northwoods. Three trails are in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest just west of Florence. Trail maps available. Bikes with child carriers available.

Your wilderness adventure can be combined with camping at the Keyes Lake Campground,
Florence County Campgrounds, or Nicolet National Forest Campgrounds.
