Sharon Schmeltzer is an award-winning artist represented in solo exhibits, galleries, and juried shows throughout the Midwest. Sharon taught art in the Breitung Township Schools in Kingsford, Michigan until her retirement and is now finding more time to devote to her love of art.
Sharon’s preferred medium is oils, but she works in a variety of media including pastels, pen and ink, colored pencils, graphite, and mixed media. She has explored both the two and three-dimensional arts.
In painting, Sharon’s greatest pleasure is in the exploration of color and its subtleties. She has expanded from a nonobjective abstract focus to what she refers to as surrealistic art, fascinated with how an individual deals with himself, interpersonal relationships, society, God and nature. Her works are simply glimpses into her feelings or feelings she senses in others.
Sharon’s paintings, while mostly abstract, are sharply delineated. Colors seem to either to glow with warmth or to transmit an almost eerie chill. The viewer will find himself feeling and reflecting, as much as looking through the layers of emotions swirling through them.
Sharon holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education from Northern Michigan University. She did graduate work at Holy Family College in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and through the University of Minnesota. Her teaching career took her from Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Dickinson County Community Schools, to Breitung Township Schools in Kingsford, Michigan. Throughout her career, Sharon has participated in art fairs and competitions where she has received numerous awards.
Sharon has been in many solo exhibits and juried shows, among them the All Michigan Show at Northern Michigan University; the Unlimited Fine Art Exhibit in Green Bay, Wisconsin; the Woman in the Arts Show at the Depot Gallery; the Northern Innovation Exhibit at the Lee Hall Gallery at Northern Michigan University; the Bonifas Art Gallery in Escanaba; the Center for the Visual Arts in Wausaw, Wisconsin, the Oasis Gallery in Marquette, Michigan, the Ed Gray Gallery in Calumet, Michigan, and at the Alberta House Art Center in Sault Ste. Marie, MI where she has received a number of awards. She has been affiliated with the Pedestrian Arts Gallery in Oshkosh, Wisconsin; the Wisconsin Arts Gallery in Gren Bay, and the Artworks Gallery in Iron Mountain, Michigan.
Sharon's work is currently on exhibit at the Ziyad & Co. Gallery in Calumet and the Alberta House Art Center, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
