Enjoy awesome fall colors in AuTrain, Munising, and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
Take a refreshing fall vacation in the Upper Peninsula.

Wherever you go, be it a secluded beach, a woodland path, or in a boat inland or on the big water, you can get away from it all.

Our canoe & kayak trips can begin at the shores of Northwoods Resort, or you can opt for a shorter run, being dropped off at the first bridge downstream. You have the option of getting picked up at the bridges, or canoe all the way to the beach at Lake Superior. Pack a lunch and your camera!

For those who prefer to do a little shopping, check out the gift shops locally in Munising or in Marquette. While in Marquette check out the Superior Dome, Presque Isle, the Lakefront, the malls, downtown, and "The Village" on Third Street. Marquette has a wide variety of eating establishments and movie theaters For those more adventurous, see Marquette Mountain by car or Sugar Loaf on foot. The views from both are among Michigan's finest!

Things to do in AuTrain:
Swim at Northwoods Resort on AuTrain Lake's finest bathing beach or on the unparalleled public "singing sand" beaches of Lake Superior's AuTrain Bay.

Fish AuTrain Lake or River for yellow perch, walleye, northern pike, small mouth bass, or whatever may be swimming upstream to spawn, on your own boat or a Northwoods Resort livery boat. With your own boat, you might also fish the waters of Lake Superior for trout and salmon.

Deep sea charters are also available nearby to pursue the finest lake trout fishing in the Great Lakes.

Numerous other lakes are waiting for you to explore where you can expect to be the only fisherman on the lake.

Sightseeing adventures abound within easy day trips from Northwoods Resort. Pam and Ed can assist you in planning trips to any destination in the U.P.

Locally we recommend visiting the Pictured Rocks. You can see these by taking a cruise along the Pictured Rocks and see lighthouses and shipwrecks. Don't miss the Glass bottom boat tours of the Alger Underwater preserve, Scuba dive the wrecks or rent a pontoon boat for a trip along the Pictured Rocks, visit the many waterfalls, both well known and those which only the most intrepid of fall-oholics have seen, and day trips to Grand Island National Recreation Area. You should also plan to ride, by car or mountain bike, the forest roads to see the AuTrain area, perhaps stopping by one of the secluded restaurants located in the surrounding forest.

Snowmobiling is rated the finest in the nation in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. With our dependable snowfall, our miles of well groomed trails, and the number and variety of businesses catering to the snowmobiler, you'll be coming back time and again. Snowmobile rentals nearby. Permits available locally. Easy trail access from your cabin door.

Cross Country Skiing is fabulous with miles of untraveled forest to explore, ungroomed trails to follow, including the North Country Trail, and the many groomed Cross Country trail systems maintained for your use.

Autumn in AuTrain affords the hunter a wide variety of game to pursue: Bear, Grouse, Woodcock, Rabbit, Deer, and waterfowl. Northwoods Resort maintains several duck blinds on AuTrain Lake where you may see anything from mallards to old squaw.

Golfers appreciate the many courses in Munising, Gwinn, Escanaba, Harvey, and Marquette-Negaunee.
