The Listening Inn B&B is located 9 miles north of Crystal Falls, MI, just off Highway US-141 in the Central Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Inn is situated on 560 acres of private land for year round enjoyment. At the Listening Inn, you will find birding and wildlife watching at its very best in this peaceful setting and 14K of groomed cross country ski trails through rolling terrain for skiers.
When you enter the hand crafted log home you will be greeted by a delightful great room with a massive field stone wood-burning fireplace surrounded by comfortable seating. Sitting around the crackling fire after a day of cross-country skiing or exploring the north woods is an ideal way to finish the day.
A unique wooden stairway leads to the upper level of the bed and breakfast. A large wrap around deck furnished with wicker furniture, gliders, and picnic tables surrounds the Listening Inn. Spend some time relaxing on the deck with your favorite book or listening to the sounds of nature. The Listening Inn Bed and Breakfast offers six country suites plus one handicapped accessible guest room on the main level as well as outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities. We have canoe and kayak rentals with livery service for the Paint River and 8 miles of cross-country ski trails with equipment rentals for our guests as well as the general public. We also have snowshoe trails with rentals. Please call to reserve your canoe, kayak, snowshoes, or ski equipment. A delicious country breakfast is served in the dining room featuring home made breads, jams, and jellies made right here at the Listening Inn. The dining room is furnished with log tables and chairs that seat 4 guests, providing privacy if desired. Our 6 tables will seat up to a total of 24 guests. Large windows and patio doors lead out to the wrap around deck that overlooks the landscaped lawn. The soup kettle is always on so a delicious
bowl of homemade soup is waiting for you if you are
hungry during the day. We will also pack a picnic
lunch for those who want to spend the day enjoying
the woods and waters or arrangements can be made
for additional meals. The large recreation area on the lower level is furnished with comfortable couches, an entertainment center, foosball table, pool table, TV with VCR, table & chairs, and a gas fireplace. A good spot for relaxing after a busy day. Patio doors open to the back yard where grills are available for outdoor cooking.
We offer wireless Internet Access and there is a five-person hot tub and an exercise bike available for our guests The luxurious guest suites on the upper level have beautiful log paneling and wood beams and each suite has a private bathroom. Guest rooms are furnished with a queen-size log bed, cozy comforters, a whirlpool tub, a sitting area, and a gas fireplace in each room.
The Sunset Guest Room is on the main level and has a queen-size bed with a cozy comforter. This guest room is handicapped accessible or is ideal for those who prefer not to climb stairs. There is a bathroom with shower across the hall.
The lower level offers two larger suites furnished with a queen-size bed, a set of bunk beds, private bathroom, table & chairs, and a kitchenette with a small fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and a sink. Patio doors open onto the back lawn and gardens. Ideal for a small group, family or those who would like to stay at the Listening Inn for several days.
The Listening Inn is ideal for the outdoor enthusiast or the traveler who wants to relax in comfort while visiting the Upper Peninsula. Your hosts, Carol and Leslie love the outdoors and will help you find interesting places to watch birds and other wildlife, go paddling, fishing, biking or hiking through the woods. Don't forget your cameras The Listening Inn B&B is surrounded by a wide variety of trees, shrubs, berry bushes, rolling hills, and meadows. A small stream meanders throughout the property and wildflowers are abundant. Keep your eyes pealed for deer, wild turkeys, ruffed grouse, or look up and see eagles soaring overhead. Many species of songbirds come to our birdhouses and feeders and will treat you with their beautiful melodies. Relax in the yard or on the porch and enjoy seeing these wonderful creatures and listening to their songs.
Hiking and biking trails are nearby and we have several trails on our property for an evening or morning stroll. Serious hikers might like to walk on our cross- country ski trails throughout our woods. The Paint River is nearby for fishing or you can float down the river in your canoe or kayak for a wonderful paddling adventure. Canoe & kayak rentals are available with life vests provided and canoe livery. A picnic lunch is available if you would like to spend the day enjoying the outdoors. There are also many nearby lakes and streams
to enjoy. There are two nearby flowages, Peavy
Falls Reservoir and the Michigamme Reservoir, where
anglers might catch musky, walleye, bass, or a wide
variety of pan fish while viewing the undeveloped
wilderness shoreline. Golfers might like the George Young Golf Course, a championship 18-hole course near Iron River or the course in nearby Crystal Falls. Fall brings outstanding color to the area and we have 560 acres of private land available for bird, small game, or deer hunting. Cross Country Skiing The Listening Inn offers 8 1/2 miles of groomed classical cross-country ski trails through rolling terrain for beginner to intermediate skier on our private property. There is no charge for our guests to use the ski or snowshoe trails, but there is a small charge for the general public. Please call 906-822-7738 for trail conditions and rental availability. public for a small charge: Snowshoeing We will be happy to provide a trail lunch for
you to enjoy on your outing. We offer weekly rates for extended stays and can provide additional meals with advance notice if you don't wish to leave this tranquil setting to go into town.
