Enjoy your vacation in this beautiful Hiawatha log home. The Lake Superior Log Home sits 50’ from the Lake Superior shoreline on the east side of Au Train Bay, just 8 miles west of Munising and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

The Lake Superior Log Home, often called the Log Home on the Rock, has a large flat rock formation by the waterfront. A fun spot to sit and enjoy the view of Au Train Island and Lake Superior.

The Lake Superior Log Vacation Home has 3 full bedrooms, a sleeping loft, and 3 full bathrooms. There is a unique wood-fired hot tub on the deck for your relaxation and enjoyment.

The open concept great room has leather furniture, a 65” big screen TV with surround sound, VCR/DVD player, and a CD player. Just kick back and enjoy your vacation. On those cold or chilly days, light a fire in the wood-burning stove and enjoy the views of Lake Superior from one of the many large windows overlooking the lake.

The log home has a complete kitchen, a snack bar with 3 swivel stadium chairs, a 6 burner commercial grade cook top with stainless countertops, double oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, cookware, dishes and utensils. The dining area seats 6. The sunroom has a patio table with 6 swivel chairs.

The master bedroom has a queen bed. The adjoining bathroom contains a double shower and a Jacuzzi tub. The loft area, over-looking the great room, has a queen-size bed. The main floor has a bedroom with a queen size bed and a bathroom with a tub/shower combination.

The basement provides a bedroom with a queen-size bed and a twin bed, a full bathroom with a shower, and a finished recreation area. Bedding, linens, and towels are supplied. Please bring your own outdoor towels and paper products.

While a guest here, you may experience one of Lake Superior’s legendary storms! From inside the home you can watch the exploding waves as they crash into the rock point, a spectacular show you won’t forget!

The 250’ of rock waterfront on the property allows easy access to launch a canoe, kayak, or swim. The sandy Au Train beach is only 1.4 miles from the house on Lake Superior. A beautiful place to spend the day sitting on the sand and enjoying the beauty of the big lake. Don't forget to bring your camera!

The Lake Superior Log House is located at the edge of the Hiawatha National Forest where guests will find hundreds of acres of public land for hiking, canoeing, kayaking, biking, fishing, photography, birding, ATVing, and snowmobiling.

Winter brings lots of snow to Alger County and the Lake Superior Log Cabin is only 1/4 mile from hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails. Cross-country ski trails are nearby and there is ice climbing for the adventurous.

Area Attractions and Recreation

The Lake Superior Log House is conveniently located close to all the natural attractions and recreational opportunities the area has to offer. Visit the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and take a walk on some of the wide variety of hiking trails, or view the National Lakeshore on the Pictured Rocks Boat Cruise or the Shipwreck Tour.

Visit the Interpretive Center on Washington Street (also called Sand Point Road) and learn about the area's history and take the short walk to beautiful Munising Falls, an enjoyable stroll through a little valley. There are several area waterfalls to visit in the area with maps available at the Visitor Center at the blinking light in Munising.

There is a ferry to Grand Island where you can hike or bike on old roads and trails or tour by bus through the scenic natural beauty. Kayak and bike rentals at the ferry dock. There are several area lighthouses with AuSable Lighthouse open for tours. These lights look especially lovely at night when they are lit.

Shopping and dining is available in the nearby towns of Au Train, Christmas, and Munising. There is a casino in Christmas and interesting gift shops

DIRECTIONS: Take M-28 west from Munising. Go past the Casino about 4 miles. Go PAST Koski Road and turn right (north) on Sunset Drive, the first road past Koski Road. If you hit AuTrain beach you have gone too far. The driveway will come to a three-way fork, about a quarter mile down. At the fork, it will go left, straight, or right. Stay to the right. That will take you to the vacation home at N7875 Sunset Drive.
