Enjoy your vacation in this beautiful log cabin on the shores of Lake Superior, 8 miles west of Munising and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Lake Superior Log Cabin is located on the east side of Lake Superior's AuTrain Bay and has two full bedrooms, a sleeping loft, and two full bathrooms with a tub and shower combination. There is a Snorkle Stove Wood-Fired Hot Tub on the deck for the ultimate in relaxing. The open concept living area has a log interior, skylights, satellite TV with VCR and DVD players, and comfortable furnishings for relaxing and enjoying your vacation. Light a fire in the wood-burning stove and settle down with your favorite book or magazine and enjoy the awesome view of Lake Superior visible out the windows. The glass door opens out to a large deck where you can sit and watch the outstanding sunsets over Lake Superior, cook up your favorite meal on the charcoal grill, or jump in the hot tub.
The Lake Superior Log Cabin has a complete kitchen with a snack bar, full sized appliances, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, pots and pans, and dishes. The sunroom has a table and chairs for additional seating. Just stock up with food and you are all set for a wonderful vacation along the shores of Lake Superior. The master bedroom has two full-sized beds and there are 4 twin bunks in the loft. The lower level has a bedroom with two double bunks, a full bathroom, a laundry room with a washer and dryer, and a family room. The basement contains a bedroom with a queen bed. Lots of room for your large group. Bedding, linens, and towels supplied but please bring your paper products. Central vacuum system for easy cleaning.
There is 250' of waterfront by the lake, a fire pit, and chairs for enjoying the breathtaking view. Throw some wood on your campfire and roast some marshmallows while you are watching the night sky and listening to the waves lap up on the shore. The shoreline can be rocky or sandy depending on the whims of Lake Superior, but there is a wonderful large sandy Lake Superior beach just west of the cabin at the mouth of the Au Train River and a swimming beach at the AuTrain Lake Campground. A rowboat comes with the cabin and boat access is nearby if you wish to bring your own boat. Canoes and boats can also be rented in AuTrain for use on AuTrain Lake or a paddle down the AuTrain River to Lake Superior.
One of the great features of this cabin is the Snorkel Stove Wood-Fired Hot Tub, a unique hot tub heated by a wood-burning stove totally submerged in the tub. The Snorkel Stove was developed in a physics laboratory at the University of Alaska for use in the north where electricity is not always available.
The Lake Superior Log Cabin is conveniently located close to all the attractions and recreational opportunities the area has to offer. Visit the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and take a walk on some of the wide variety of hiking trails, or view the National Lakeshore on the Pictured Rocks Boat Cruise or the Shipwreck Tour. Visit the Interpretive Center on Washington Street (also called Sand Point Road) and learn about the area's history and take the short walk to beautiful Munising Falls, an enjoyable stroll through a little valley. There are several area waterfalls to visit in the area with maps available at the Visitor Center at the blinking light in Munising. There is a ferry to Grand Island where you can hike or tour by bike or bus. There are several area lighthouses with AuSable Lighthouse open for tours. These lights look especially lovely at night when they are lit. Fishermen will enjoy fishing in Lake Superior or the many lakes and streams of the Hiawatha National Forest where you will find hundreds of acres of public land for hiking, canoeing, hunting, photography, birding and ATV'ing. There is a Kewadin Casino in Christmas, and you will find shopping and restaurants in Munising.
Winter brings lots of snow to Alger County and the Lake Superior Log Cabin is only 1/4 mile from hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails. Cross-country ski trails are nearby with a lighted trail in Christmas. Go dogsledding or take a walk through the woods on some showshoes. Snowmobile rentals in Munising. Enjoy winter! Go past the Casino about 4 miles. Go PAST Koski Road and turn right (north) on Sunset Drive, the first road past Koski Road. If you hit AuTrain beach you have gone too far. The driveway will come to a three way fork, about a quarter mile down. At the fork, it will go left, straight, or right. Hang to the right.
