Lake of the Clouds Resort is located in a wooded setting only 6 miles from the "Porkies" in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Lake of the Clouds Resort offers
Five Housekeeping Cabins We offer one three-bedroom cabin, one one-bedroom cabin, and three one-room cabins. All five housekeeping cabins have a knotty pine interior, satellite TV, bathroom with a tub & shower combination, and a complete kitchen with a stove, refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, dishes, and cooking utensils. All cabins have a front porch for relaxing.
Linens, towels, and paper products are provided for our guests. Each cabin has a charcoal grill and a picnic table. Don't forget the charcoal for your outdoor cooking. Silver City is only 5 miles from the "Porkies" and on the shores of Lake Superior. The Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is just 6 miles west of the cabins. The "Porkies" offers something for everyone from beautiful scenery and wildlife to a variety of outdoor activities. The path up to Lake of the Clouds is handicap accessible with a nice gentle ramp to the observation point overlooking the lake and the forest wilderness. . . an ideal spot for some fantastic photographs.
Bikes, canoes, and kayaks can be rented at the concession store at the eastern entrance to the park by Union Bay Campground. There is also a sand bottomed swimming beach on Lake Superior with picnic tables, but swim at your own risk as there is no lifeguard. The park offers miles of hiking trails, observation points, mountain bike trails, scenic overlooks, wildlife viewing, hunting, and downhill & cross-country skiing. Several area waterfalls are within a short distance of the cottages for an interesting hike. Don't forget your camera. There is fishing in the nearby lakes and streams or a charter fishing trip on Lake Superior can be arranged at the Ontonagon Marina. Lake of the Clouds Resort is on the ATV trails so you can ride from the door on connecting trails throughout the area.
The Silver City area is a wonderful, relaxing area to visit as well as full of historical lore from the copper mining area. Tour the Adventure Copper Mine, visit the historic Old Victoria Restoration where copper miners settled, walk through interesting museums in Rockland or Ontonagon, or tour the Ontonagon Lighthouse.
Winter at Lake of the Clouds Resort Winter brings an amazing amount of snow to the Silver City Area and there are miles and miles of groomed snowmobile trails for riding your sled. These trails connect throughout the western Upper Peninsula for rides in the Porkies, in the Ottawa National Forest, or on the Bill Nicholls Trail up towards Houghton and the Keweenaw Peninsula. The trail runs right by the cottages so you can ride from the door.
Skiers of all ages will enjoy downhill skiing, snowboarding, and cross country skiing at the Porcupine Mountains State Park. Lake of the Clouds Resort is only 12 miles west of Ontonagon for shopping and dining or there is a restaurant and lounge at the AmericInn in Silver City as well as several small shops and galleries.
