Tour #2 - Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore tour is no longer available due to Federal Regulations. Tour #3 -Grand Island Deluxe (50 minutes) See everything in Tour #1, plus Williams and Wood Islands, AuTrain Basin, Chains of Inland Lakes, Bay Furnace and much more. $180.00 total price. Fifth seat is available for $30, so that a group of 4 can go at one time. The capacity of the Cessna 182 is the Pilot, 3 adults + one child. Tours #1, #2, and #3 take you over the Grand Island North Lighthouse, (Old North Light) on the north side of Grand Island, built in 1867. This is the only way to see this historic light, the world's highest light above sea level. The 2 story Keepers dwelling, built in 1867, is now a private residence. The Old North Light, standing tall on a 175 foot cliff, had a 4th order fresnel lens which shone out over Lake Superior for up to 15 nautical miles. This lighthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was deactivated and automated in 1961.
Flight time is from engine start to shutdown. No camcorders please, due to instrument and radio interference and pilot distraction. Your cameras are welcome. Take advantage of today's higher technology and treat yourself and your family to an air tour of the famous National Pictured Rocks along the beautiful Lake Superior shoreline from the seat of a Cessna 182 airplane. Special tours available on request. Systems checked before every flight. This meticulously maintained aircraft undergoes a thorough air frame and engine inspection every 100 hours as required by the FAA. Tour flights leave daily from Hanley Field outside of Munising, between spring and fall colors (weather permitting). From Munising, take M-28 east for 3 miles, turn right at the Super 8 Motel, taking Federal Highway 13 south for 2 miles to Hanley Field. The Air Tours of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore have been discontinued due to a disagreement with the National Park Service.
